2014 was an Interesting time for paleontology403 Views7 RepliesAdd A Reply
I was reflecting on discoveries on dinosaurs in the last years and I realized that many discoveries were made, particularly made or published in 2014. I wanted to provide a few examples.
Getting this out of the way
Okay now onto more interesting stuff.
Deinocherus, is a really weird dinosaur. Prior to research published in 2014, the paleontology community envisioned this dinosaurs as a larger version of the Gallimimus. Until 2014 we had only discovered the forearms and skull of this dinosaur, which helped classify it into the Clade Ornithomimosauria. More skeletal remains of Deinocherus were found reavealing a much more odd looking dinosaur, with a hump like sail on its back and proving its body structure to be more like the Pelicamimus.
Changyuraptor yangi was a small dinosaur with a simmilar body plan to Microraptor. Unlike microraptor, Changyuraptor was much larger weighing 8.8 lbs. About the size of a turkey.
Many more discoveries were made in 2014, but I wanted to mainly talk about Deinocherus
I mean, Dakotaraptor was first, first discovered in 2005 and was described in 2015 but uuuh...
Uhh.. I was talking about 2014 but sure, there should be a thread for interesting dino discoveries
haha i'm just a big fan of dakotaraptor lol
Let’s talk about Dakoraptor then
wait, what other things were found in 2014? I'm not super into the discovery side of paleontology
I’m too lazy, but there’s a really weird look tyrannosaur discovered, it has a super pointy snout
